“Kingdom of durians” in harvesting season
There are up to 1,539 hectares of durians in Ngu Hiep Island in Ngu Hiep commune, Cai Lay district, Tien Giang province, making the island a “kingdom” of durians of the south west of Vietnam. The kind of tree has been developed since 1990 in Ngu Hiep commune, before being expanded in other communes in Cai Lay district. So far the district has reported the largest area of durians in the country, with this kind of tree having been developed in some 5,000 hectares of land.

Durians in Ngu Hiep communes are often sold at higher prices than that in other places as their quality has been proven for a very long time.

There are different kinds of durians produced.
Each seed produces durians of different weight, size, flavour and colour.
The prices of durians are often high at the beginning of the harvesting season and lower in the middle of the season.
On average, durian gardeners earn profit of VND40 million each hectare.
