(VNF) - The Korea Chamber of Business in Vietnam (Korcham) recently organized the Korean Entrepreneur Night 2017 and awarded 114 scholarship to outstanding Vietnamese students.

Launched in 2015, “The Night of CSR (corporate social responsibility) by Korean Entrepreneur 2015 – Together We Share” to promote friendship and cooperative relations between the governments and business of the two countries.

This year’s event is also one of activities to celebrate 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea.

At the ceremony, Korean business awarded 114 scholarship worth VND 1,140 billion to 114 students.

South Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Lee Hyuk emphasized that CSR is no longer an option but a prerequiste for sustainable development.

“In the future, each of 6,000 Korean businesses investing in Vietnam will support one Vietnamese student, toward for a prosperous Vietnam’’, he said.

KorCham's representative also affirmed that it will always be with Korean businesses to build a better investment environment and spread the values ​​of CSR activities to help many Vietnamese students pursue their dreams.

According to statistics from the Foreign Investment Agency (Ministry of Planning and Investment) from the beginning of 2017 year to August, Korea has led in 98 countries and territories with investment projects in Vietnam. Korea's registered investment capital is USD 6.02 billion, accounting for 26% of total investment in Vietnam.

According to the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), since 1988, Korean businesses have invested about USD 50.5 billion in Vietnam, accounting for 30.8% of total foreign direct investment (FDI), with 5,773 projects, of which 71% were invested in manufacturing, followed by real estate with 14.8% and construction with 5.4%.
