Kumquat in pots – a cultural characteristic of Hanoi

To welcome this year’s lunar New Year, kumquat planters in Tu Lien village, Tay Ho district, Hanoi raise a new style of kumquat – kumquat planted in pots.

As the lunar New Year festival (Tet) is coming in about one month, the Tet atmosphere overwhelms Tu Lien village. This year, planting kumquat in pots is a tendency for ornamental plants during Tet.

The kumquat tree, about 50 centimetres high is planted and shaped in small pots.

The small trees are suitable for many families in cities who have limited living space.

According to artisan Bui The Manh, it takes about 2-3 years for a kumquat pot.

Caring for the trees is painstaking so that the trees blossom and produce fruits in the small pots.

Because of the painstaking care, the trees are sold at high prices of between VND500,000 and 10 million each.

Under the skillful hands of planters, the trees are produced with unique shapes.

The prices depend on the shapes of the trees, even on the value of the pots.
