Laos extends condolences to Vietnam over former Party leader’s death
The Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, the National Assembly, Government, and the Lao Front for National Construction’s Central Committee on October 2 extended condolences to the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, National Assembly, Government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee over the passing of Do Muoi, former General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee.

“We highly value the achievements and great contributions of Comrade Do Muoi during the struggle for national independence in the past, as well as in the nation-building and construction of the country during the 80 plus years of his revolutionary career,” read the message.
It also highlighted the contributions that Do Muoi made to the reinforcement of friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, and peoples.
The passing away of Do Muoi is a loss of a close friend of the Party, State, and people of Laos, it added. The Lao side also extended deep condolences to the family of Do Muoi.
Do Muoi was also a member of the CPV Central Committee in the third to eighth tenures and member of the Politburo for the fifth to eighth tenures. He served as the General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee from June 1991 to December 1997.
He was born on February 2, 1917, and passed away at 23:12 on October 1 at Military Hospital 108 in Hanoi./.
