Leaders extend greetings to Japan on Emperor’s birthday
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Nguyen Phu Trong recently sent a letter of greetings to Japanese Emperor Akihito on the occasion of his 85th birthday (December 23).
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc cabled a congratulatory message to his counterpart Shinzo Abe.
Also on the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh extended greetings to Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono.
According to CNN, Emperor Akihito has recently released his final annual birthday statement before he abdicates the throne in April -- the first Japanese monarch to do so in 200 years.
According to Reuters, more than 82,000 well-wishers paid their respects to Emperor Akihito who turned 85 on Sunday./.
