New passenger terminal at Da Nang airport construction kicked off
With the total investment of VND3.5 trillion, construction of a new terminal at the Da Nang International Airport began on November 15th to ease the burden on the lone existing terminal that is expected to be overloaded soon.
The terminal is slated for completion by March 2017 before the 25th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum to be held later that year.
The 44,000sq.m, two-storey terminal, with a capacity of four million passengers a year, will exclusively serve international flights.
The existing terminal, which serves both domestic and international flights now, will then become domestic.
Designed to handle six million passengers a year, the existing terminal was commissioned in late 2011.
Last year five million passengers passed through the airport, a 16 percent rise from 2013.
With a 15 percent annual growth rate in passenger numbers, the existing terminal would be overloaded soon, Le Manh Hung, head of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, said earlier this year./.
