New Year Fairs of northern region to open in Hanoi

Aiming to recreate the rich cultural space of ethnic groups in the northwest and northeast regions of Vietnam, a fair, with the theme “New Year Fairs of the Northern Region” will be held from December 29th in Hanoi.

(VNF) - Aiming to recreate the rich cultural space of ethnic groups in the northwest and northeast regions of Vietnam, a fair, with the theme “New Year Fairs of the Northern Region” will be held from December 29th in Hanoi.

New Year Fairs of northern region to open in Hanoi

This cultural space is a combination of the ethnic groups’ marketplace and celebration space, including activities such as singing, dancing, traditional games, and local cuisine and specialties of the Mong, Dao, Muong, Thai, Kho Mu, Tay ethnics.

At the center of the fair is the booths of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Giang, Dien Bien, Son La, Cao Bang, and Lang Son northern provinces, showcasing their region’s specialties (1.5 tons of vegetables: mustard greens, fresh and dried bamboo shoots, chayote, iconic spices.

Cuisines of different ethnic groups are expressed through their signature dishes such as thắng cố (a meat dish), corn wine, mèn mén (a corn dish) of the H’Mong; colored sticky rice, grilled chicken, pork, rice cooked in bamboo tubes, grilled fish of the Thai.

Tourism potentials of Son La, Dien Bien, Cao Bang provinces will also be introduced through photo exhibition, flyers; and textile products by the Mong, Thai, Dao, Kho Mu such as clothing, scarf, bracelets, souvenirs will be available for browsing and sale.

The New Year Fairs will introduce cultures of different ethnic groups with activities such as making textiles, drinking corn wine, eating traditional food, making rice, and singing folk songs; and create a genuine cultural atmosphere and provide interactive space for the audience to enjoy local cuisines.

The event will last until January 1st, 2018 at Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture And Tourism (Dong Mo, Son Tay, Hanoi). Entry at door is VND 30,000 for adults, VND 5,000 for children and VND 10,000 for students./.
