Nonprofit vocational and working skills training courses for 500 youths in Hanoi

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Vietnam collaborated with Center for Women’s Development Support (CWDS) to organize vocational and working skills training course inauguration ceremonies at Ha Dong and Ba Vi districts, Hanoi.

The inauguration ceremony is one of the activities within the framework of the project “Youth Empowerment through Skills Training in Hanoi”, in short, “YES Center”.

In November and December 2018, two vocational and working skills training course inauguration ceremonies were held for young people, from 15 to 25 years old, who were studying and living in Ha Dong and Ba Vi districts, Hanoi. These ceremonies are the results of training needs assessment implemented by ADRA in Vietnam and CWDS.

The vocational and workplace skill training courses are going to be held from December 2018 to the end of September 2019. 500 youth will participate in vocational training courses relating to textile, cooking-bartender and make-up skills; as well as; necessary workplace skills such as Communication, Team working, Self-management and Entrepreneurship skills.

Representing at the ceremonies, there were Cong Luu Dinh, Programs Director of ADRA in Vietnam; Nguyen Thi Hao, CWDS Director; local officers of Women’s Union and People’s Committee; representatives of local corporations; and many young people, the main beneficiaries of the project.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremonies, Hao emphasized that vocational training was one of the most important elements in fostering and improving the quality of human resources. She would like the women’s union local officers and leaders to regularly take care of and help to facilitate the vocational and working skills training courses.

She hoped vocational and working skill lecturers would instruct their students well and overcome the material difficulties, while youth shall involve in the training courses with a great manner to achieve the highest results.

Dinh, on behalf of ADRA in Vietnam, briefed the current vocational training situation. He specially thanked CWDS, local women’s union and people’s committee, local corporations for their supports; and hoped young people who involved in the project would become more confident with their capability in the near future.

YES Center project was designed to empower youth, especially girls and young women, by strengthening their skills and voices for economic self-reliance to take a leadership role in poverty alleviation initiatives in Vietnam. The project has cooperated with CWDS to develop vocational and short-term working skill training courses to improve the working capacity of selected trainees.
