Ha Giang province owns land and is home to climatic conditions suitable for medicinal plants. Identifying that the plants bring high economic value, over the past few years, the province has carried out a range of experimental activities to help preserve and develop the plants, contributing to improving people’s income and accelerate poverty reduction.

At present, the province is speeding up the implementation of the project across 6 poor districts by working with related companies to give growing and caring techniques for farmers and has increased production of seedlings, making sure that by 2020 the province becomes the biggest medicinal plant production area in the northeast, providing the material for the domestic market and for some Southeast Asian nations.

The province has chosen 41 wild plants from 17 species to develop under the shade of the forest. The plants then will then be preserved and harvested sustainably, producing an increase of the value, which in turn will create jobs, increase income for local residents and help reduce poverty.

The State budget will invest in the preservation of scarce species in danger while the province encourages residents to set up collectives and community-based enterprises to grow and process medicine plants.

Under the project, each commune will grow only one kind of plant product so that the products receive the greatest care and provide the highest quality./.
