The central province of Quang Nam has recently put into use 12 suspension bridges in mountainous areas that often have victims of flash floods.

These are among the bridges under the project on building 186 suspension bridges across 28 northern, central and Central Highlands mountainous provinces during 2014-2015 by the Ministry of Transport.

Accordingly, all 12 bridges built in Quang Nam province have a length of 50-120 metres with the high tensile steel cable.

The constructions were distributed throughout residential areas and those near schools and medical stations in the mountainous districts of Tien Phuoc, Bac Tra My, Hiep Duc and Tay Giang.

Together with the building of the 12 bridges, Quang Nam province has also repaired 44 others and built some others on mountainous routes with a capital of over VND60 billion, in an attempt to ensure traffic safety during extensive rain or flooding.

The second phase of the suspension bridge project will be continued in 2016. The Ministry of Transport plans to allocate the province further capital to build 59 suspension and concrete – steel bridges in extremely disadvantaged regions which are inhabited mainly by ethnic minority people and regularly face flash floods./.
