Save the Children launches new projects in Ca Mau

On September 26th, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organization (VUFO) in Ca Mau held a meeting with representatives of the Save the Children Fund (commonly known as Save the Children), an UK non-governmental organization, about its new projects in the province.

(VNF) - On September 26th, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organization (VUFO) in Ca Mau held a meeting with representatives of the Save the Children Fund (commonly known as Save the Children), an UK non-governmental organization, about its new projects in the province.

Attending the meeting were Chairman of VUFO in Ca Mau Vo Hoang Hiep, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Programme Manager Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh and her colleagues.

As the leading agency in mobilizing and linking non-governmental aid abroad, Mr. Hiep affirmed that the VUFO will work closely with the organization, and programme staffs to maintain project activities.

For her part, Mrs. Binh shared their new project to support communities affected by drought and sanitation in Central Highlands and Mekong Delta region. Specifically, Save the Children will provides assistance in two communes: Khanh Binh Dong communes, Tran Van Thoi district and Bien Bach commune, Thoi Binh district. Ca Mau province’s Red Cross Society will implement the project in coordination with the relevant and local sectors.

The project’s main goal is to provide an innovative approach to water, hygiene behaviour and health attitudes; support the development of livelihoods and household food security; train local offices and communities to prepare for emergencies to mitigate the impact of natural disasters.

The project’s implementation period is from September 26th, 2016 until July 31st, 2017 and the total budget of the project is VND 5,207,102,132; approximately EUR 212.726 (about USD 234.480).

With natural conditions has a vast river network, long coastline and complex movements of climate change, Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau especially the residential areas in the coastal zone, need support to reduce their vulnerability and increasing their resilience to natural disasters from organizations, inpiduals and the international community.

The VUFO and local authorities pledge to closely coordinate and cooperate with Save the Children to successfully implement the planned projects./.
