South Africa’s National Day celebrated in Hanoi

(VNF) - The Embassy of South Africa in Vietnam held a ceremony in Hanoi on April 27th to mark the country’s 23rd National Day (April 27th, 1994-2017).

Speaking at the event, Ms. Kgomotso Ruth Magau, South African Ambassador to Vietnam, emphasised the historical significance of the National Day, giving birth to the Republic of South Africa, and opening up a new era of freedom for South African people.

The event was also to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the founding of the South African Army and 100th birthday anniversary of former president of the African National Congress, Mr. Oliver Reginald Tambo, the revolutionary whose outstanding leadership and dedication to struggle guided South African people to freedom.

On this occasion, the Republic of South Africa also commemorates 100 years of the loss of South African soldiers who died on SS Mendi ship in the World War I.

The Ambassador also highlighted positive developments in the relationship between both countries, with cooperation in various fields including agriculture, national defence, trade and investment, education and science since the diplomatic relations established in 1993.

Since then, relations between South Africa and Vietnam have fared well, especially after the partnership forum established in 2004.

Assistant to the Foreign Minister Mr. To Anh Dung said the Government and the people of Vietnam attached significance to the partnership for cooperation and development with South Africa.

He also expressed his belief that with efforts made by the two nations, Vietnam- South Africa cooperative ties will reap more rewards./.
