South Korean naval vessels starts visiting Da Nang
Destroyer ROKS Kang Gam Chan and combat support ship ROKS Hwacheon of the Republic of Korea Navy carrying 633 sailors and officers docked at the Tien Sa port, beginning a friendly visit to Da Nang on September 18.
According to Rear Admiral Yang Yong-Mo, this visit (September 18-21) is one of the activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of South Korea-Vietnam diplomatic ties.
As scheduled, the South Korean naval delegation will pay a courtesy visit to the Da Nang Municipal People’s Committee, conduct sport and cultural exchanges with the Zone 3 Command of the Vietnam People’s Navy and visit charity centers in Da Nang.
In addition, the 633 officers and sailors of Destroyer ROKS Kang Gam Chan and combat support ship ROKS Hwacheon will donate 11,000 books on Korean language teaching to the city’s library, the Da Nang University of Foreign Language Studies and other units.
The Kang Gam Chan is 150 meters long, 17.4 meters wide and has a water displacement of 5,500 tons. The vessel is designed to conduct reconnaissance missions, anti-submarine attacks, and surface-ground strikes.
It can reach a maximum velocity of 54km per hour and is equipped with surface-air, surface-submarine, surface-air and surface-surface weaponry systems.
The ROKS Hwacheon is a Cheonji-class combat support ship whose main missions are to supply fuel and food and other logistics to other warships as well as undertake rescue efforts.
Ealier, from September 4-7, the South Korea Coast Guard Academy's vessel Badaro (3011 HAM) carrying 189 officers and sailors paid a friendly visit to Da Nang.
