The rise in CPI was due to increases in petrol, oil and electricity prices pushing up the price index of two groups transport and housing-electricity-water-fuel-building materials by 2.5% and 1.84%.
Household equipment and appliances saw a CPI increase of 0.34% while the price of clothing, hats and footwear soared 0.25% from the previous year. Other groups saw slight fluctuations.
Food groups enjoyed a price decrease of 0.72% thanks to abundant supply and reduced demand due to the hot weather, contributing to the price reduction. Consequently, the restaurant and service sector dropped 0.49% from the previous month.
The Ho Chi Minh city municipal Statistics Office has reported a slight increased CPI in the southern hub, at 0.03% higher than March and up 0.8% year on year.
Accordingly, four out of 11 commodities witnessed CPI declines, including restaurant and service (0.54%), beverage and cigarette (0.15%), home appliances and equipment (0.02%) and post and telecom (0.17%).
Meanwhile, other commodities saw increases over the previous year. Specifically, housing and gas increased 0.29%, transport surged 2.71% and fuel products climbed 6.35%)./.
