Vietnam Prioitizes Promoting Women’s Role
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet affirmed the importance of women in society. Strengthening the role of women is associated with the development and progress of human society. Only when women are empowered, equal, only when women's voices and experiences are valued and enhanced, will solutions be truly comprehensive, sustainable, and long-term.

The United Nations Security Council's Agenda on Women, Peace, and Security, established in 2000, is the basis for gathering resources, organizing activities, and supporting women in conflict contexts and crisis, thereby helping them better protect their rights and more effectively promote their role in society.

The Party and State of Vietnam place an important priority on promoting the role of women in maintaining international peace and security. Vietnam made an important mark when it presided over the Security Council's adoption of Resolution 1889 in 2009 on the role of women and girls in the post-conflict context. Vietnam is also currently a country with a high rate of female soldiers participating in United Nations Peacekeeping operations, reaching 16%, much higher than the United Nations average of 4%.
In 2020, Vietnam adopted the Hanoi Action Commitment, with 75 co-sponsors, which calls on countries to build a National Action Program on women, peace, and security. This reaffirms Vietnam's strong commitment to joint efforts with the international community to promote this agenda.
Speaking at the workshop, Caroline Nyamayemombe, Acting Chief Representative of UN Women in Vietnam, highly appreciated Vietnam’s efforts in the development of a National Action Plan on women, peace, and security. She said that the Action Plan recognizes the important role of Vietnamese women in creating peace and sustainable development. Empowering women and girls and exercising their human rights is an integral part of efforts to maintain international peace.
