Statistics from labour export enterprises showed that in May alone, 10,164 labourers were sent to work abroad. Taiwan (China) remained the largest labour market for Vietnamese labourers as it received 5,146 labourers, followed by Japan (2,424 labourers), the Republic of Korea (RoK) (1,483 labourers), Saudi Arabia (558 labourers), Malaysia (187 labourers), and others.
In May, the RoK re-opened its labour market for Vietnamese labourers. MOLISA Minister Dao Ngoc Dung and the Korean Minister of Employment and Labour Lee Ki Kweon officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on sending Vietnamese labourers to the RoK based on the employment permit system (EPS) after 3 years of restriction due to a high rate of illegal residence and work in the RoK by Vietnamese labourers.
According to the MoU, in 2016, the RoK will receive 3,500 Vietnamese labourers. This opens up opportunities for the large number of Vietnamese labourers who want to go to work in the RoK./.
