Under the theme of “Blue Ocean, Green Planet,” a range of activities will be held to mark the week, including a meeting attracting 1,500 delegates at the central level, leaders from 28 provinces and cities having sea areas, representatives from departments and agencies, unions, farmed forces, pupils, students and people across Quang Ngai province.

Moreover, a meeting will also be held on June 8th to mark the World Ocean Day.

During the week, volunteers will clean up the coastal environment, ride bicycles to disseminate the information on environmental protection, and encourage the release of young fish for reproducing fisheries resources.

On June 7th, Quang Ngai province will organise an investment promotion conference to invite domestic and foreign investors to Dung Quat economic zone, other industrial zones and Ly Son Island.

According to Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, the week will help to raise awareness of agencies and people on the strategic position of the sea and islands in relation to safeguarding the nation and the nation’s development. It is expected to promote the strength of the whole country to create positive action, and contribute to successfully realising economic development plans and the protection of the sovereignty of the sea and islands.

This will also be an opportunity for Quang Ngai province to introduce the potential of the sea, thus attracting investment.

Vietnam was among the first 9 nations responding to the World Ocean Day launched by the UN General Assembly in 2009./.
