The award was granted by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), in recognition of Prof. Hiep’s distinguished contributions in the field of complex analysis, in particular to pluripotential theory. The Mathematician has successfully obtained an important result relating to the singularities of plurisubharmonic functions, complex Monge-Ampère equations, and log canonical thresholds, which all have important applications in terms of algebraic and complex Kähler geometry.
Moreover, the prize also acknowledges Prof. Hiep's dedication to the advancement of mathematics in Vietnam.
Born in 1982, Prof Pham Hoang Hiep met mathematics by chance. In his last year in secondary school, he fell in love with Mathematics after reading an entire book on arithmetic his father had bought. He started the passionate journey with Mathematics since then.
In 2011, Pham Hoang Hiep was awarded the title Associate Professor by Vietnam’s Professorship Council and was considered the youngest professor in Vietnam then.
At present, Prof. Hiep is working as a lecturer and researcher at the Institute of Mathematics, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and the Hanoi National University of Education.
The Ramanujan Prize is an annual award granted by ICTP, the Department of Science and Technology under the Government of India, and the International Mathematical Union. It is a prestige for researchers from developing nations who are below 45 years old and have been conducting outstanding research in their respective country.
