Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh believes that every Vietnamese community in Brazil is a bridge for the friendship between the two nations.

Meeting Vietnamese people in Brazil, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Party and State always care about the Vietnamese community abroad in general and in Brazil in particular, asking people to continue promoting the spirit of solidarity, and to play a good role in bridging the friendship between Vietnam and Brazil.

On the occasion of his official visit to Brazil, on the evening of September 23 evening (local time), in São Paulo city, Brazil, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation met with representatives of the Vietnamese community in Brazil and nearby South American countries.

At the meeting, the PM appreciated the efforts of the Vietnamese community in Brazil in stabilizing life, integrating well into the host society, focusing on doing business, and developing to contribute positively to the host society as well as the friendly relationship between the two countries.

The PM was very happy with the efforts of people in recent times to unite and promote the tradition of mutual support and mutual help to stabilize life in the spirit of the first helping the next, the young helping the old, those who have the means help those who are more difficult. At the same time, with the spirit of "drinking water, remember the source," always looking towards the homeland. These are the traditional and precious beauties of our Vietnamese people wherever they are.

Currently, the Vietnamese community around the world has about 6 million people, of which the Vietnamese community in Brazil, formed in the 1970s, currently has about 150 people.

PM Chinh affirmed that the Party and State always care about the Vietnamese community abroad in general and our compatriots in Brazil in particular, "being an integral part of the Vietnamese nation. Today's achievements in national development all have important contributions from the Vietnamese community in more than 130 countries around the world, including the community in Brazil."

The PM said he would ask Brazil to continue creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, and do business stably and legally in Brazil.

In the coming time, with the attention and support of the Party and the State, the PM asked people to continue promoting the spirit of mutual understanding, continue to enhance the spirit of solidarity, and help each other overcome difficulties and create conditions for relatives and acquaintances to work and live in Brazil; uphold national pride, actively integrate, comply with the law and contribute to local development; always look towards the homeland and play a good role as a friendship bridge between Vietnam and Brazil.

The PM also asked the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil to continue to pay attention and support Vietnamese people abroad to build a united, developed Vietnamese community in Brazil, always looking towards the homeland.

As part of his official visit, PM Chinh also visited and met with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil, according to VNA.

With the embassy’s great contributions, Brazilian friends have a good understanding of Vietnam as well as the country’s development process and “bamboo” diplomacy, he said, asking the embassy to make greater efforts to enhance Vietnam’s economic, trade, and investment ties with the South American country – a power in Latin America.

Both nations hold huge potential for further cooperation, he said, requesting the embassy to work to accelerate the negotiations and signing of bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements, an investment protection agreement, and a double taxation avoidance agreement, among others, to bolster economic cooperation as the deals will create legal frameworks to carry out bilateral collaboration.

The embassy was also ordered to channel focus on people-to-people exchanges and cultural, sport, and education exchanges, while coordinating with the Brazilian side at the multilateral forums to support each other, especially supporting ASEAN’s central role in the East Sea issues.

Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Thi Kim Hoa committed to make efforts to develop the bilateral ties and boost two-way trade revenue to USD 10 billion by 2025, and USD 15-20 billion by 2030.
