The EOD quick response was conducted after two staff of the NPA-RENEW Non-Technical Survey (NTS) Team called the EOD team to inform that local villagers had helped locate some dangerous munitions.

After being informed, the EOD team promptly arrived in Kim Giao Village where they found two mortar rounds (60mm and 81mm) and two 40mm grenades near a tomb. These ordnances afterwards were moved to an open sandy area in the village and were safely detonated.

As part of NPA-RENEW Survey and Clearance Program, NTS team members often interview local people in order to establish starting points, or Suspected Hazardous Areas, where Technical Survey teams will be deployed to define Confirmed Hazardous Areas that need full clearance. In case of finding munitions, NTS members are to coordinate with EOD teams for timely removal and destruction of UXO.

Since 25 June 2018, accurate and life-saving information provided by NTS team has triggered 85 EOD spot tasks, resulting in over 90 items of UXO being safely destroyed.
