The scholarships have a total value of nearly EUR900,000 funded by the German government's budget. The 44 scholarship winners will travel to Germany this summer to begin studying for their Masters and PhD degrees, whilst also taking German language courses.

In which, a scholarship for Doctoral level within three years costs around EUR50,000.

Successfully candidates will have funding to cover language preparation in Vietnam and Germany, monthly payments of EUR888, monthly payments of EUR60 towards health insurance cover, payments towards accident and personal liability insurance coverage, yearly study and research subsidy of EUR460, and round-trip tickets.

Since 2003, DAAD has also assisted the Project 911 on training PhD instructors for universities and colleges in Vietnam in the 2010-2020 period of the Ministry of Education and Training. This year, 13 candidates successfully passed the qualifying round for the scholarship.

Project 911 sets a target that Vietnam will have at least 20,000 more PhD degree holders by 2020, half of which will be trained in reputable universities and colleges around the world in order to increase the number of PhD instructors, as well as improve educational quality in the country.

Since the DAAD Office in Hanoi was established in 2003, DAAD has spent over EUR52 million on scholarships, language teaching, and science exchanges, among others.

After returning home, most of them have become reliable ambassadors representing Germany in their institutions, as well as active supporters for DAAD network in Vietnam./.
