Recently, the Board of Management of the project “Youth Empowerment through skills training in Hanoi”, in short “YES Center Hanoi” had a visit to the Vietnam Friendship Village (Van Canh commune, Hoai Duc district, Hanoi) to meet and give gifts to the young people with disabilities living and studying here.
The project “YES Center Hanoi” was designed to empower youth from 15-25 years old, giving priority to vulnerable young girls, women or those who have difficulty in accessing training programs and career opportunities, by strengthening their skills and voices for economic self-reliance and to take a leadership role in poverty alleviation initiatives in Vietnam. At Vietnam Friendship Village, 10 students with disabilities (Motor impairment, deaf, and intellectual disability) were chosen to attend the elementary vocational course “Tailoring”.
Started in April 2019, after more than 6 months with great efforts of both students and vocational teachers, all of these 10 students have graduated from the course, in which 2 students achieved “Excellent certificate” and already have had their own plan career path for the near future.
During the visit, the representative of the Board of Management including Center for Women’s Development Support, ADRA in Vietnam and ESPRIT gave certificates to these 10 students and gifts which were stationary and essential belongings for their daily life as recognitions of their efforts throughout the Tailoring course.
Also in this visit, a talk-show was conducted with Hoang Hong Kien to be the guest speaker. Kien was a ParaGames athlete who won 8 gold medals and she came to the talk show to tell the young people with disabilities her story. She hoped the young people living and studying in Vietnam Friendship Village would always keep the faith and become good persons to the society.
At the end of the visit, the representatives of the Board of Management came to the boarding house and communal room, and give gifts to the children here. The YES Center Hanoi project expected to approach a greater quantity of children and young people with disabilities at Vietnam Friendship Village and help to improve their life in the future.
