Cham ethnic minority village’s mosques
Cham Chau Giang village in An Phu district, the southern province of An Giang which lies on the side of Hau River has become a peaceful destination for tourists who want to forget the crowded atmosphere in Chau Doc border city.
The village gathers the largest number of Cham ethnic minority people in An Giang province. From Chau Doc city, it takes only 5 minutes to reach the village by ferries.
As a majority of Cham people are followers of Islam, there are many mosques in the village, notably Mubarak which was recognised a national heritage.
It is easy to meet local residents on the road wearing their traditional clothing in daily life.
A majority of Islamic mosques are painted white and blue. An Phu district is the place for many Islamic agencies, centres and schools.
Masjid Jamiul Azhar Mosque is one of largest mosques in An Giang province. Built in 1959, the church has undergone upgrades. It is considered one of the most beautiful mosques in Vietnam.

One of specific characteristics in Jamiul Azhar is that there is a cemetery in front of it. According to local residents, it is the resting place for many Islamic followers coming from different parts of Vietnam.
