Upon the invitation of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and his spouse, along with the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President To Lam and his spouse, will conduct a State visit to the Republic of Cuba from September 25 to 27, 2024.

Could you share the purpose and significance of the State visit to the Republic of Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse?

Comrade To Lam's trip to Cuba marks his first visit as General Secretary and President. Notably, Cuba is among the first nations he has visited. This visit comes as both countries are gearing up to commemorate the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, established in 1960.

For nearly 65 years, the traditional solidarity, support, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba have been diligently nurtured, strengthened, and advanced across various sectors. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, as Vietnam fought for national liberation, Cuba stood as a beacon and forerunner in the global movement to support Vietnam's rightful battle, offering invaluable and efficacious aid. In turn, Vietnam has consistently worked to bolster solidarity and unity, striving to enhance and maximize the effectiveness of the comprehensive cooperation between the two nations and their ruling parties. The leaders of both parties and states have often highlighted that the bond between Vietnam and Cuba is a "symbol of the era."

The visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to Cuba is a strategic move to implement the foreign policy set by the 13th National Party Congress. It underscores Vietnam's commitment to strengthening ties with its traditional allies. This visit is a testament to the Vietnamese Party, State, and people's solidarity, loyalty, and unwavering support for their Cuban counterparts. During the visit, the senior leaders of both Parties and States will review and assess recent cooperation achievements between Vietnam and Cuba. They will propose strategies to enhance and heighten the effectiveness of collaboration across all sectors, aiming to elevate the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Cuba to new heights, fostering substantial and sustainable development for the well-being of both nations' peoples.

What are the expectations of the two sides from the visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam?

During the visit, General Secretary and President To Lam will engage in discussions and meetings with prominent leaders. Additionally, General Secretary and President To Lam, accompanied by the delegation, will lay wreaths at the statues of President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban national hero Jose Marti. They will also tour various economic entities, particularly those with Vietnamese enterprise cooperation and investment projects, and interact with representatives and the youth from both nations. Moreover, there will be ceremonies to lay flowers in honor of President Ho Chi Minh and to pay respects to the Cuban leadership.

Through the visit, Vietnam affirms its desire to continue to inherit and promote the valuable legacy of relations between the two countries, on the solid foundation pioneered by President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
