A Communist Party of Vietnam delegation led by Hoang Binh Quan, Party Central Committee (PCC) member and Head of the PCC Commission on External Relations paid working visits to Greece and Italy from October 16th-21st.

According to Vietnam News Agency, during the visit to Greece, the delegation worked with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Chairman of the Greek Parliament Foreign and Defence Committee, leaders from the Greek Foreign Ministry and leaders from the left-wing Syriza Party.

Meanwhile, in Italy, the delegation had meetings with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Italy (PCdI), Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Re-foundation Party of Italy (PRC), Vice President of the Lower House and Vice President of the Italian ruling Democratic Party (PD) and Head of the Italian Lower House External Relations Committee.

During the meetings, the delegation thanked the Greek and Italian partners and their people for the affection and support for Vietnam during its previous struggle for national liberation and the current renewal process, highlighting Vietnam’s achievements in overcoming the consequences of the wars, eliminating poverty, stabilising the political system and economic development, ensuring social welfare in an advanced and equitable society, and actively integrating into the world.

The delegation discussed potentials in cooperation between Vietnam and the two countries, promoted the more effective results of previously signed agreements, suggesting the partners further increase the efficiency of bilateral cooperation, contributing to enhance cooperation within a multilateral framework such as the EU, ASEAN, both being bridges for one another to enter the Southeast Asia and Southeast Europe.

The delegation confirmed the solidarity between Communist Party of Vietnam with the Parties of the two countries and informed them of the preparations for the 12th National Party Congress while exchanging solutions to promote the relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam with the Greek and Italian Parties.

Greek and Italian authorities, parliaments and political Party leaders showed their admiration with the Vietnamese heroic struggle for national liberation and unification, appreciated its achievements in poverty reduction and in mitigation of the negative influence of the unstable international economic environment and most recent economic and financial crisis, as well as Vietnam’s expansion of external relations and regional and international integration.

They affirmed that they would continue to promote relationships with Vietnam. The partners shared Vietnam’s viewpoint in addressing disputes peacefully in accordance with international laws./.
