During the workshop, Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People’s Committee, said that the cooperation between the two cities, mainly in areas concerning the environment, had started a very long time ago and had developed strongly over the past 3 years.
Since 2013, Da Nang and Boras cities have carried out environmental cooperation projects worth SEK2.4 million, or roughly VND7.5 billion.
The projects have aimed at increasing the ability in waste management, building the plans for solid waste treatment, supporting the classification of waste in Hai Chau district, and studying the possibility in building a bio-gas production plant.
The projects have also reached universities in the city, opening up opportunities for lecturers and students in environmental research programs.
According to Ulf Olsson, Boras city Mayor, up to 99% of waste in the city is recycled into usable fuels and materials while only 1% of waste is buried.
Leaders from the two cities agreed to continue the cooperation in the upcoming time not only in environmental and urban management areas but also in education, the development of a green city and the bus rapid transit project.
During the workshop, Da Nang city leaders called on the Swedish business community to invest in areas that receive priorities in development such as solid waste treatment system, hi-tech industry, information and technology, tourism, service, education and health./.
