Da Nang Takes Lead in Environmental Protection

Da Nang city topped the list of the 63 cities and provinces in Environmental Protection Performance Indicators (PEPI) in 2021, with 79.82 points, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has announced.
It was followed by the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau and the Mekong Delta’s Tra Vinh province, with 78.79 points and 77.52 points, respectively, according to VnEconomy.
The central highlands province of Dak Nong was at the bottom of the list, with 51.3 points.
The indicators include 27 component indexes structured into two groups: evaluations of the implementation of environmental protection objectives and tasks; and assessments of people’s satisfaction with the quality of the living environment.
It is also aimed at establishing the efficiency and effectiveness of State management over environmental protection and raising awareness and responsibilities among State management agencies and individuals about protecting the environment.

Regarding satisfaction over living space, which was calculated through a sociological survey, Phu Tho topped the rankings with 28.7 points. The second place went to Ba Ria-Vung Tau with 28.3 points, and third place was given to Ho Chi Minh City with 27.5 points.
Hanoi only gained 20.5 points, below the national average level of 24.2 points, and therefore it ranked 58th out of all 63 cities and provinces, VOV said.
This marks the second year that the ministry has released the ratings. Following the results, it requested that localities implement solutions to improve the overall effectiveness of environmental protection and the performance of the PEPI moving forward.

Da Nang has effectively implemented a project to protect the environment in the 2021-2030 period by optimising resources from the society for the work, according to VietnamPlus.
Director of the city Department of Natural Resources and Environment Vo Nguyen Chuong said the city has conducted various communications activities to mobilise resources to and call for engagement of the community in environmental protection.
In the 2021-2022 period, the city focused on four major tasks, namely preventing and controlling pollution, improving the environment and solving major problems, preserving biodiversity, and strengthening capacity and awareness on environmental protection. In 2022, the city spent VND3.41 trillion ($145.26 million) on the work.
Da Nang expects to become an ecological urban area by 2030 that is environmentally safe for people, investors, and tourists./.
