Habitat for Humanity to Create More Housing opportunities for Low-income People

These opportunities will be further addressed at the National Housing Forum, expected to be held in Hanoi in 2024 by US NGO Habitat for Humanity.

At the meeting, Maricelle Regino-Borja, National Director of Habitat Vietnam, said that the organization plans to expand its housing construction project for the poor in Vietnam (Vietnam Big Build), which was implemented since 2018 in the provinces: Dong Thap, Tien Giang, Phu Tho. In 2024, the Project expects to construct houses for 25 ethnic minority families in Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province. The Vietnam Big Build 2024 is expected to attract the participation of more than 200 Vietnamese and international volunteers, providing an opportunity to strengthen connections and cultural exchanges between young people in Vietnam and other countries.

In 2024, Habitat Vietnam also plans to organize the National Housing Forum in Hanoi. The event aims to gather delegates from many countries to find solutions to affordable housing issues. The representative of Habitat Vietnam looks forward to receiving VUFO's support in fundraising, organizing, and implementing the ideas.

Nguyen Ngoc Hung, Vice President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, said VUFO supports initiatives to provide resources to support Vietnam and promote Vietnam's image to international friends. VUFO agreed to coordinate with Habitat Vietnam in connecting with localities and implementing upcoming activities.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-governmental organization based in the US, that implements renovation and housing construction programs for the poor and homeless. Present in Vietnam since 2001, Habitat Vietnam has supported housing improvements for more than 61,000 low-income families. The organization provides training sessions on natural disaster prevention, financial education, hygiene practices, and construction skills for nearly 245,000 people.
