Hanoi: Get-together marks 40th founding anniversary of Front 479

Speaking at the event, head of the Front 479 volunteer soldiers association in Hanoi Le Cuong said the front was established on April 14, 1979 with three main missions: continuing to fight in Cambodia to prevent the recovery of the Pol Pot genocidal regime, helping Cambodia recover production, and assisting Cambodia build its government and armed forces from the central local levels.
During their ten-years of operation in Cambodia, the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers of Front 479 and Cambodian armed forces took part in over 16,000 battles, and helped the country build revolutionary forces.
At the get-together, veterans of Front 479 reminisced about unforgettable memories and commemorated their comrades, who have bravely sacrificed themselves to accomplish the noble international mission.
They also reminded each other to maintain and promote solidarity among Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
On the occasion, the VCFA and former volunteer soldiers of Front 479 in Hanoi presented 33 gift packages to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, representatives from families of martyrs and Cambodia students studying in Vietnam./.
