HCM. City launches program killing larva for dengue fever prevention

(VNF) - The Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Health, Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union on August 27 jointly launched a campaign on killing mosquito larva to fight dengue fever.

Addressing the launching ceremony, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Tan Binh, Head of the city’s Health Department, said that the campaign aimed at eliminating mosquito’s reproduction in every household, ensuring the efficiency of anti-mosquito chemical spraying and maintaining the sustainability of community-based dengue fever prevention.

The campaign which includes various practical activities will be run through the 2018 lunar New Year.

At the same time, the city authorities also plans to carry out a communication campaign with far-reaching effects in the community on dengue prevention and working toward the implementation of effective solutions in fighting against the disease.

On the ocassion, 15 voluntary teams kicked off a communication program to encourage residents to actively adopt preventative measures by sanitizing the environment and eliminating living environments of larva, in an attempt to reduce the number of infections in the time to come.

According to the city's Preventative Health Department, since the beginning of this year, the city has reported over 12,000 cases of dengue fever, a year-on-year increase of 26%, making it the locality with the second largest number of infected cases nationwide./.
