(VNF) - On 4 December, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Craig Chittick hosted a meeting with Australian volunteers on the occasion of International Volunteer Day (December 5).

Since 1973, Australia has more than 1,000 volunteers to work in Vietnam. They have skills and experience relevant to Vietnam's development priorities.

Australian volunteers participate in many areas: education and training, community development, private enterprise, agriculture, gender equality and health.

Vietnam is currently the 5th largest volunteer recipient from Australia. Every year, over 40 Australian volunteers work in Vietnam. A new volunteer program launched by Australian Government in February demonstrates Australia's commitment to supporting the international volunteer program.
