Housewives and Youth Trained on ‘Banana Fibre Extraction’

With an aim to create a sustainable solution and convert agricultural waste into income generating avenues, a hands-on training program on “banana fibre extraction, its value-addition and vermicomposting” was conducted for housewives and unemployed youths on March 29 at Medziphema Village, Chümoukedima district.

The training was conducted by Science and Technology Intervention in North-Eastern Region, Technology Facilitation Centre (STINER-TFC), School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD): Nagaland University (NU).

In a press release, STINER-TFC, SASRD:NU informed that project in-charge, STINER-TFC & PVC, SASRD: NU, professor Akali Sema, in an opening remark, said encouraged the participants to take every opportunity in availing the assistance, technology and resources of the Centre as it was situated in Medziphema.

She further motivated the participants to acquire knowledge and skills from the training to its optimum and strive towards livelihood generating avenues.

In the first session, experts from STINER-TFC trained the participants on the process of banana fibre extraction and in the technical session, the process of vermi-composting was practically demonstrated.

The programme was chaired by office assistant, STINER-TFC, Pelevituo Kuotsu; invocation prayer by youth director, BCMV, Medovituo Vüprü; a theoretical presentation on the scope and utility of banana fibre and vermi-compost was presented by project assistant STINER-TFC, Bikram Ghimere; a brief remark from secretary, MVC Avitsi Nakhro and vote of thanks by STINER-TFC, project assistant, Rokosieno Zao.
