A folk tradition originating from the Southwest region, picking water lilies in the flooding season is one of the longest-standing jobs and imbued with the idyllic and rustic beauty of the local people.

Arriving in Moc Hoa (Long An) in this season, one can easily find women sailing on the water, picking up colorful water lily flowers. The sound of laughter and paddles waving into the water, the beautiful color of water lily, the peaceful vibe of the countryside all create a Southwest region's bold and charming characteristics. In the flooded field, when the water has the dark gray color of alluvium, the vibrant water lilies and farmers' Ba Ba shirts stand out.

Locals love water lilies for their strong vitality. The flowers grow wild and require no human care. The flowers start to grow in the rainy season and bloom in the flooding season. The high water level nurtures the flowers to grow and bloom, adding more color to the region of rivers and lakes.

The wild water lily is sometimes "ghost" water lily as it grows in long-lasting lagoons. The "ghost" flowers only bloom late at night and fade when the sun rises. The flowers quietly show off its color, although its body is soft, it has a supple strength.

Long An lies about 45 km southwest of Ho Chi Minh city center. From Saigon to Long An, you can follow the following two roads:

The first option starts from the inner city of Ho Chi Minh, move to Binh Chanh. At the Binh Thuan traffic junction, then turn to National Highway 1 and go straight through My Yen and Vinh Loc, then cross Ben Luc bridge. From Ben Luc bridge, visitors go straight to Tan An bridge to Tan An city in Long An.

The second road starts from Ho Chi Minh City, then moves to Binh Chanh. At the intersection of Binh Thuan traffic junction, visitors turn straight into Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong highway about 30 km. Then turn right into the roundabout, go back to the direction of highway 62 to Tan An city, Long An.

The most appropriate time to visit the region is from September to November. Around the season, many photographers from all over the nation come to capture the flowers' beauty.
