The Ministry of Education and Training on October 28 organized the opening of the Vietnamese speech contest for foreign students studying in Vietnam in 2023 in Hanoi.
The contest aims to enhance Vietnamese cultural exchanges with other countries, help improve Vietnamese language skills for international students, and contribute to promoting Vietnamese education and culture with international friends.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc said Vietnamese language and culture are increasingly asserting their position in the international arena.
More foreigners love, learn, and study Vietnamese. It has also become one of the foreign language subjects taught at many educational institutions in many countries and territories around the world.
According to Nguyen Van Phuc, the Ministry of Education and Training determined that the key factor affecting the quality of teaching and learning of foreign students in Vietnam is Vietnamese language proficiency.
Teaching and learning Vietnamese is not only about introducing language and equipping tools to acquire knowledge, but also about promoting culture, spreading national identity and improving intercultural communication capacity for international students studying in Vietnam particularly, foreigners and those who love Vietnamese language and culture.
Launched in August 2023, the Vietnamese speech contest for foreign students in Vietnam attracts many universities, colleges, and Vietnamese language training facilities having foreign students studying.
There are 65 training facilities in 29 provinces and cities registered to participate. The participating teams brought unique performances, imprinted with their love for the country and people of Vietnam.
In 2023, the contest has the theme "Vietnam in me." Foreign students participating in the contest will share in Vietnamese their knowledge about the country, people, and culture of Vietnam.
They share profound memories of living, studying and living in Vietnam, about solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and their home country.
With the debate format, each team can choose 2-3 main debaters, the maximum presentation time for each part is seven minutes. Contestants will present their speech contest in Vietnamese with a topic of their choice. They can use illustrations to increase the attractiveness and persuasion of their part.
The preliminary round took place on three days October 28, November 10 and November 3, corresponding to three competition clusters in the North, Central and South with 11 teams.
The Organizing Committee awarded the first prize in the North to the team from Huu Nghi 80 School. |
The 12 best teams will be selected to participate in the national final round scheduled to take place on December 1, in Ho Chi Minh City.
The organizing committee will award a total of 60 prizes including 4 First prizes, 8 Second prizes, 12 Third prizes, and 24 Consolation prizes.
According to the students, the contest is a useful playground that allows them to hone their Vietnamese speaking skills, practice presentation skills, boldness, and confidence.
This is also an opportunity for students to interact and learn from friends from different universities across the country.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, there are currently about 22,000 foreign students studying in Vietnam. On average, every year, from 4,000 to over 6,000 international students are accepted into Vietnamese educational institutions. Most international students choose Vietnamese/Vietnamese studies, majors taught in Vietnamese. Therefore, they need to use Vietnamese in life and study. Although there were initial hardships in language and living conditions, with the support of schools, lecturers, students and Vietnamese people, foreign students overcame difficulties to complete the study program. Every foreign student, when returning home, promotes the knowledge and skills they learned and practiced in Vietnam and becomes a bridge for friendship between Vietnam and other countries. |
