The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on June 11^th opened up a training course worth USD200,000 at the Hai Duong provincial vocational training centre, with an aim to train female managers in the service sector.

Accordingly, this year, the course will give English and Korean language training as well as computing and service skills to some 150 female labourers in the province. These are necessary skills for both local and Korean enterprises. At the end of the training course, the trainees will be supported in seeking jobs at enterprises.

The project, budgeted by KOICA and Asiana Airlines, is expected to satisfy the demand for local labourers and narrow the gap in income between male and female labourers.

According to Chang Jae Yun, KOICA Country Director in Vietnam, the gap in income between male and female labourers, together with obstacles preventing women from joining the workforce, badly affect Vietnam’s economic strength.

He added that he hoped the project would increase female labourers’ ability in managing level in the service sector.

Hai Duong province is situated 58 kilometres from Hanoi. There are currently some 30 Korean enterprises and over 270 foreign enterprises in the province./.
