"Many bears have endured their life in “prison" in farms. Many inpiduals have been arrested and in captivity since they were small,” said singer My Linh.
“We have achieved significant progresses over the past 10 years, but we will not stop until no bear is held in captivity to get bear bile," added the singer, calling upon the community to bring to an end completely to bear farming in Vietnam.
In respond to the Vietnam Bear Day on May 7th, active volunteers among the network of over 5,000 volunteers engaging in wildlife protection of ENV organized various activities with theme "Stop bear farming" in 15 provinces and big cities across the country to raise awareness and encourage people to actively participate in bear protection.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as of early 2015, there were only about 1,250 bears captured in bear farming across the country, a decrease of 72% compared to 2005.
Besides, a survey about attitudes and behavior of bear bile use of more than 3,000 people in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh city late 2014 showed that bear bile usage had decreased 61% compared to 2009./.
