Meeting Between Vietnam - Laos Youth: Festival of Friendship
Vietnam and Laos opened the youth friendship meeting and the “Following leaders’ footprints” programme 2022 in Hanoi on September 14, with the participation of more than 300 youth delegates from Vietnam and over 100 others from Laos, VNA reported.

After two years of interruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the two events above were reopened with the participation of 102 Laotian delegates and around 300 youth union members, young people of Vietnam.
The program was a meaningful activity to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations (September 5, 1962 –2022) and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the bilateral Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18, 1977- 2022); and a special occasion for young people of the two countries to commemorate the traditional combat alliance, valuable support, assistance and goodwill between the two countries Parties, States and people in the cause of national liberation, reunification and the national development at the current times.
Bui Quang Huy, first secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) Central Committee, said after a two-year hiatus caused the Covid-19 pandemic, the two programmes have returned, giving the countries’ youngsters a chance to learn the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos and affirm their resolve to help maintain and further strengthen the relations.
The events also provide an occasion for young people to share experience in youth union affairs and children's movements while stepping up the studying and following of late Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Kaysone Phomvihane’s ideology, moral examples, and styles among the youth in each country, he noted.
Huy stressed the HCYU attaches special importance to the friendship and cooperation between the countries’ youngsters and acknowledges the need to make stronger efforts to lift this relationship to a new height.

For his part, Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union (LPRYU) Central Committee Monxay Laomuasong underlined the significance of the two programmes, during which the two sides will hold talks to exchange experience, discuss the youth situation and related activities, look back on the traditional friendship, and visit the sites of predecessors’ revolutionary activities.
Activities within the programmes will help enhance the special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic relations between the two Parties, States, peoples, as well as youth unions, he added.
At the opening ceremony, the LPRYU Central Committee and the HCYU Central Committee were bestowed with the first-class Labour Order of each other’s countries.
The organizers honored 11 Vietnamese - Laotian youths who excelled over thousands of young people to receive the highest prize in the contest to learn the history of special relations between Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam with the theme "Vietnamese - Laotian youth cherish friendship".

The program will last until September 18 with meaningful and practical activities, according to Thanh Nien (Youth) Newspaper.
Within the framework of the program, the leaders of the Lao Communist Youth Union had a courtesy meeting with leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam; visited and worked with the Culture and Education Committee of the National Assembly; met with the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of Bac Ninh Province and the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of Hoa Binh Province.
Also within the framework of the program, Lao youth delegates and Vietnamese youth delegates will jointly attend the seminar themed "Thoughts of President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane with Vietnamese - Laotian youth".
In addition, the delegates will visit historical sites of Vietnam such as: President Ho Chi Minh's relic site at the Presidential Palace; Vietnam - Laos International Martyrs Cemetery; Kim Lien relic site - President Ho Chi Minh's hometown; tourist destinations of Vietnam, models of young people doing business well and exchange with young people, students in the localities of Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hoa Binh, Ha Nam, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and so on.
