(VNF) - The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment (MONRE) has requested four central provinces to provide regular reports on marine environment quality.

Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien–Hue are four provinces urged to strictly carry out the instructions of environment monitoring and frequently submit reports regarding this issue to the authorities.

The reports will be made public on MONRE portal as well as on mass media.

The ministry also sent an official announcement to the four provinces, suggesting local authorities to publish the reports on their own website and other mass media outlets.

In Ha Tinh, last May, an automatic water quality monitoring station was installed at the area where Formosa factory had discharged wastewater. The station has been used to conduct regular examination on the waste released by the Taiwanese steel manufacturer, which was responsible for the mass fish deaths in several central Vietnamese provinces last year.

The station works round-the-clock and automatically updates results every two minutes.

Six indicators measured by the station include: COD (chemical oxygen demand), SS (suspended solids), temperature, pH and total nitrogen.

The installation of the monitoring station was considered a necessary move after severe maritime pollution ocurred across several central provinces of Vietnam./.
