Rescue forces promptly arrived at the scene and, as of now, have rescued five crew members, including four foreign nationals and the captain. All three Vietnamese crew members have been saved and are in stable health without any serious issues.
Upon receiving the information, the Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK immediately coordinated with local authorities to verify the information and confirm the identities of the Vietnamese crew members.
The Embassy also requested that Seogwipo police arrange for the crew members to be taken to a hospital for health monitoring and to provide updates to the embassy.
On the evening of February 12, Acting President of the RoK, Choi Sang Mok, ordered the full mobilization of all available equipment and personnel, including patrol ships and underwater search-and-rescue teams, to assist in the rescue efforts. He also instructed authorities to quickly identify the missing individuals to ensure accurate recognition of those present on the vessel and to guarantee the safety of the rescue forces.
A 500-ton coast guard patrol vessel has been deployed to the site, and rescue operations are being conducted urgently to locate the missing victims.
Earlier, on the morning of February 9, a RoK fishing vessel carrying 14 crew members capsized at an area approximately 20 nautical miles east of Goemun, Yeosu city, the RoK's Jeollanam province. Among the victims are three Vietnamese nationals, two of whom were rescued and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital, while one remains missing. The Vietnamese Ambassador to the RoK has instructed the Labour Management Board to work with the company sending the Vietnamese workers to the RoK and relevant authorities to confirm the identities of the affected Vietnamese, notify their families, and provide guidance on necessary procedures. The two rescued crew members are receiving treatment in hospital. They have since recovered and have been in contact with their families. Under the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK is maintaining close coordination with Korean authorities to oversee ongoing search and rescue efforts. The embassy has also affirmed its readiness to provide all necessary support and consular protection to ensure the rights and legitimate interests of the affected Vietnamese citizens. |
