Painter Nguyen Thu Thuy introduces details on the ceramic mosaic mural to delegates.

The ceramic painting shows the majestic landscape of the world's natural wonder, the Grand Canyon in the US state of Arizona, along with iconic images of American tourist culture such as San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge on the west coast and the Empire State Building of New York on the east coast stands out against the background of the American flag; the Statue of Liberty in New York; and the complex of statues of the four early US presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln carved on Mount Rushmore, in the southern state of South Dakota.

On the ceramic mosaic mural, the symbols of the natural and cultural heritages of the US and Vietnam are shown and interwoven in a special way. Khue Van Cac in Temple of Literature stands out on the background of the Vietnamese national flag placed parallel to the US Capitol building in Washington DC, interwoven with the blooming lotus pond of the capital Hanoi.

At the same time, the Temple of Literature, the first university in Vietnam, is comparable to the prestigious Harvard University.

At the right rear of the ceramic mosaic mural is the magnificent view of Ha Long Bay. Thousands of mosaic tiles are put together to create the shimmering colors of the mountains covered in lush green flora, full of life, reflected on the blue water of the legendary bay.

Artist Thu Thuy presents the US's side with a watercolor painting of the Grand Canyon.

At the opening ceremony, artist Thu Thuy presented US Ambassador in Vietnam Marc E. Knapper with a watercolor painting of the Grand Canyon - an excerpt from the final sketch.

Ambassador Knapper said, "The US and Vietnam are both proud to possess two unique natural wonders of the world. It is a symbol of the natural beauty, culture and history of the two nations, which will help us to have more mutual understanding in the process of preserving and promoting the special values that nature bestows.”

The Vietnam-US ceramic mural contributes to a small bridge connecting more affection, understanding and strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two countries and two peoples.

The Hanoi Ceramic wall, one of the major projects that were developed on the occasion of the Millennial Anniversary of Hanoi City, is also a brain child of Thuy, who is also Director of New Hanoi Arts Co. Ltd.

This mosaic wall is the largest mosaic art in the world and it received recognition in October 2010 by Guinness Book of World Records for the longest mosaic mural in a public space.

Thuy graduated from the Hanoi Foreign Language Teacher Training University in 1992. She studied fine arts from 1992 to 2005 at artists Cong Kim Hoa and Pham Viet Cong’s studios. She became a member of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association in 2001.

She has made works for public art projects in Hanoi, the provinces of Thai Nguyen and Thanh Hoa, and Truong Sa (Spratly Archipelago), as well as Phuong Mai Peninsula.
