Myanmar President Htin Kyaw is scheduled to pay his first state visit to Vietnam on the occasion of his attendance at several summits in Hanoi.

The Myanmarese head of state will join talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Tran Dai Quang and other high-ranking leaders during his first visit to the Southeast Asian country since the beginning of his presidency in March.

He is also slated to partake in several international conferences organized in Hanoi between October 24 and 26.

The diplomatic events include the 7th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), the 8thCambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam (CLMV) Summit, and the World Economic Forum on Mekong (WEF-Mekong).

The ACMECS and CLMV summits will be organized under the theme of developing an active Mekong region, attended by 160 businesses, 100 of which are members of the World Economic Forum.

“The summits are expected to be attended by the Myanmarese president, prime ministers from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, and the Thai deputy premier in charge of economic affairs,” Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Dinh Quy said at a press meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday.

The events are considered some of the largest-scale multilateral activities being held in Vietnam this year, according to Deputy Minister Quy./.
