VNF - In the morning of February 15, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences cooperated with the Vietnam Historical Sciences Association to organize a national-level scientific seminar on the topic "The fight to protect the northern border - looking back, 40 years on (1979-2019)”.

This is a meaningful activity to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the fight to defense the northern border (17-2-1979 / 17-2-2019).

The workshop received the attention of many delegates who are scientists and lecturers from prestigious agencies, research institutes, institutes and universities throughout the country such as the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Vietnam Association of Historical Sciences; National Defense Strategy Institute; Vietnam Military History Institute; Ha Noi national university; Ho Chi Minh City National University; Political Academy; Hanoi Pedagogical University; Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.

The workshop also attended by witnesses, veterans who have participated in fighting to protect the northern border; cadres and civil servants of socio-political organizations such as the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Vietnam War Veterans' Association, Vietnam Women's Union, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Vietnam- China Friendship Association, and delegates, scientists come from departments, ministries, central and local branches.

The workshop received 60 presentation papers. They focus on basic issues, such as: Affirming the historical truth and legitimacy of Vietnam in the struggle to protect the northern border; Appreciate and honor fellow compatriots and soldiers who fought and died in the war, educating the patriotic tradition, national pride; providing a number of theoretical, practical and historical lessons drawn from the war, contributing to educating the spirit of solidarity, the determination to build a strong country in the context of the world and the region has many complicated and unpredictable developments.

The workshop also evaluated and clarified the determination of the Party Committee and people of the northern border provinces in overcoming difficulties and consequences of war, building socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security, improving people's lives, especially families of war invalids, martyrs and families of people with meritorious services to the country.

The workshop is also an opportunity to look back at the historical event 40 years ago honestly and objectively, thereby strengthening solidarity, promoting friendly and cooperative relations and developing among countries, people in the world; at the same time critique the wrong views, manifestations, hostility, distorting, slandering, taking advantage of the Northern border event to incite and fight against the leadership of the Party and State, Vietnam – China friendship.

The workshop contributed to affirming the consistent policies of the Party and State of Vietnam in relations to China with the spirit of "keeping the past to the future"; Vietnam's efforts in building friendly, cooperative, equal and mutually beneficial relations between Vietnam and China. Precious experiences in building and developing Vietnam - China diplomatic relations drawn from the workshop will be supplemented, developed and applied creatively and appropriately in the process of national construction and protection and the development of friendly relations between Vietnam and China in the new period.
