On November 10, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training organized the program "March of Capital Students". The event is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Hanoi Education and Training sector (1954-2024).

The event was attended by Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong; Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha; UNESCO Representative to Vietnam Jonathan Wallace Baker.

In his opening speech, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong emphasized that this is an activity in response to the city's Creative Design Festival and effectively implementing the 2018 General Education Program, while enhancing aesthetic education, ideological education, politics, ethics, lifestyle, and behavioral culture, meeting the requirements of comprehensive education for students.

The activity also aims to arouse pride, inspire and motivate generations of Hanoi students to express their patriotism and love for the capital; and encourage and motivate teachers and educational managers to continue to strive, innovate and be creative for the cause of education and training, building and developing the capital, the country, and international integration.

The activity aims to inspire Hanoi’s younger generation to express patriotism and love for their city. Additionally, it seeks to motivate educators and administrators to innovate and strive for excellence in education and training, contributing to the development of the capital, the nation, and international integration.

UNESCO Representative to Vietnam Jonathan Wallace Baker expressed his joy and shared that 2024 marks the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being recognized by UNESCO as a City for Peace, and is also the time of establishing the UNESCO Office in Hanoi.

“I am particularly pleased to learn that the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has launched the Happy Schools criteria for schools, from kindergarten to high school. This is an important and exciting step towards creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for Hanoi students. This initiative is fully aligned with the UNESCO Global Framework for Happy Schools and our partnership with Vietnam in promoting inclusive, equitable, and quality education, to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4.

I am also delighted that the Hanoi People’s Committee is interested in becoming a member of the Global Learning Cities Network. We look forward to working with Hanoi to support this process.

I am also delighted that the “March of Capital Students” is an activity in response to the Hanoi Creative Design Festival, marking 5 years since Hanoi became Vietnam’s first member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. As students march today in the heart of peaceful Hanoi, I hope they will feel proud and appreciate the heritage of their ancestors as well as their fellow citizens, from all ages and backgrounds,” said Jonathan Wallace Baker.

The trumpets, dances, drum beats, songs, and voices of the students of the Capital brought attractive performances, elaborately staged with diverse colors and high artistic quality. Each performance conveyed the students' love and pride for their beautiful homeland, demonstrating their artistic talents nurtured by their beloved school. The program is an opportunity for students to exchange learn, and develop their abilities comprehensively, while at the same time arousing the aspiration to develop the country and national pride for generations of Capital students.

The parade "March of Capital Students" is an opportunity to recreate the development journey of the Education and Training sector of the Capital, while honoring the efforts and contributions of generations of teachers and students over the past 70 years.
