Nearly VND50 billion mobilised to support poor farmers

(VNF) - Over the past 6 years, the Ho Chi Minh city Farmers’ Association has raised nearly VND50 billion from enterprises, agencies and sponsors to support the lives of poor farmers.

The information was announced during a press briefing for the program, encouraging support for poor farmers during the lunar New Year festival.

The program, which will be held for the 7th time by the city Farmers’ Association and the city Television (HTV), is of great humanitarian significance, said Nguyen Quy Hoa, HTV General Director.

According to Duong Van Nhan, Vice Standing Chairman of the city Farmers’ Association the VND50 billion assistance had been used to build 860 charitable houses, repaired 263 houses, given 9,320 Tet presents, 2,166 television sets, and 6,711 medical insurance cards for poor farmers.

Through the upcoming program, the association is expected to receive assistance to support the lives of 7,000 poor and nearly-poor farmers’ families by building 50 houses, presenting 5,000 Tet gifts, constructing 5,000 reservoirs and granting 1,000 scholarships with a total capital of VND18 billion./.
