The northern region, including Hanoi, is forecast to face torrential rains until this weekend.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, from 7 pm yesterday to early this morning, July 18, the rainfall in many regional localities was estimated at 5-20mm. The highest rainfall was recorded 43mm in Lao Cai Province’s Sapa Town, 93mm in Tuyen Quang and 62mm in Phu Tho Province.

The centre forecast that between today and July 22, the heavy rains continued happening in the region with the rainfall of 40-80mm.

The capital city of Hanoi will see heavy rains on July 18-22.

These days, torrential rains caused by Storm Talas have been ravaging many northern localities as well as the central provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh.

Meanwhile, nearly 3,000 houses in in the central region had their roofs blown off and thousands of trees were uprooted.
Vietnam Airlines and Jetstar Pacific have also had to reschedule a number of domestic flights due to the impact of Storm Talas./.
