According to the Vietnamese Craft Villages Association, until 2014, the country had 5,096 craft villages, of which 1,800 were recognised by the Government. The craft villages attracted more than 10 million workers. Their average income often is two-three times higher than that of workers in the agricultural sector.

However, the quality of products is low, the market is slow to expand and the specific demand of customers has not been paid much attention. For the local market, the craft villages have not approached other regions while advertising and marketing for the foreign market is weak and the value chain is not well established. Science and technology have not been applied in the craft villages./.
