A groundbreaking ceremony was attended by US Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink, commander of PP19 Mission Captain Randy Vann Rossum, and representatives from local authorities and relevant agencies.
Each classroom covers an area between 180 sq.m - 200sq.m. They are not only for learning, but also provide accommodation for about 150 people in case of natural disasters.
The programme also helps improve, repair and upgrade six other classrooms of the school.
The same day’s morning, many activities such as workshops focusing on in-depth discussion of natural disaster response, especially those can cause a large number of casualties; and on medical profession.
PP19 Mission is organised in Phu Yen from May 6-17 with a wide range of activities, including health check-ups for locals and community exchange.
This is an opportunity for Phu Yen province to join Vietnam and regional nations’ efforts in bettering their capacity of disaster response. It will help the locality consolidate relations between Vietnam and its partners around the world.
The pacific partnership programme, promoted by the US Navy in 2004, aims to improve capacity in response to natural disasters in the Indo-Pacific region./.
