Painting contest promoting non-smoking life launched

It is also designed to disseminate the law on prevention and control of tobacco harms.
The contest was jointly organised by the fund for prevention and control of tobacco harms of the Health Ministry and the Vietnam Fine Arts Association.
According to the fund, Vietnam records about 40,000 tobacco-related deaths each year, a figure forecast to increase to 70,000 by 2030.
Associate Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue, director of the fund, said the contest aims to raise public awareness of the harms of active and passive smoking as well as the law on prevention and control of tobacco harms.
The contest is open for professional and amateur artists, Vietnamese citizens and overseas Vietnamese.
There will be one first prize worth VND 15 million (USD 650), two second prizes each worth VND 13 million (USD 559), three third prizes each worth VND 12 million (USD 516) and seven consolation prizes each worth VND 8 million (USD 344).
The deadline for submission is May 4, 2019. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held in June the same year.
