The newspaper published an article evaluating the results of Paraguayan Minister of Industry and Commerce Javier Gimenez's visit to Vietnam to strengthen the two sides’ bilateral relations.

According to ABC Color, Paraguay considers Vietnam a potential market for agricultural exports such as soy and meat.

Regarding the meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Hong Dien on May 24, Paraguayan Minister Gimenez said the visit would contribute to promoting the Vietnamese business delegation in preparation for seeking cooperation opportunities and commercial exchange in Paraguay.

According to the Paraguayan Minister, Paraguay is striving to expand new export markets for soybeans, meat, and other products. The country is now approaching the 700-million-people market of members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including Vietnam.

The Minister also had working sessions with Vietnamese businesses, including representatives of Viettel Telecommunications Group, one of the major telecommunications corporations in Southeast Asia.

In its role as Rotating Chairman of Mercosur in 2024, Paraguay will strongly focus on the promotion of negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement between the South American Common Market (Mercosur) and Vietnam, the Minister emphasized.

Paraguay is one of Vietnam’s 10 major trading partners in Latin America. Trade turnover between the two countries in 2023 reached more than 280 million USD, a year-on-year increase of 22.2%.

Vietnam's main exports to Paraguay include coffee, sports shoes, electric fans, rubber, bamboo, rattan goods, ceramics, and garments while mostly importing soybean meal, beef, and by-products, leather, and wood.
