According to Johan, Midsummer in Swedish is the time for family and friends to enjoy group activities like picnic and dancing, and usually could last for the whole day. Their first Midsummer in Hanoi captured this spirit well.
"Midsummer in Hanoi has the same thing [as in Midsummer in Sweden] like musicians, music and the "Maypole". The big difference is that we bring our own picnic and gather around in the middle of the day, then will go to the summer house with a group of friends in the evening [in Sweden]," said Johan.
There are about 120 participants this year (Photo: Nhung Nguyen). |
Midsummer is the second largest holiday in Sweden, after Christmas. This festival celebrates the longest day of the year. In 2023, Midsummer Eve falls on 23 June but in many places, festivities are held during the whole Midsummer weekend. |
